Re-Wire & Safety
How Safe is My Home?
A periodic inspection and associated testing will check whether an electrical installation is in a satisfactory condition for continued service. On completion of the necessary inspection and testing, an Electrical Installation Condition Report will be issued detailing any observed damage, deterioration, defects, dangerous conditions and any non-compliance’s with the present-day safety standard which might give rise to danger.
You should also carry out your own regular checks around the house on the condition of your cables, switches, sockets and other accessories. If you notice anything unusual – for example, burn marks on plugs and sockets, sounds of ‘arcing’ (buzzing or crackling), fuses blowing or circuit-breakers tripping get in touch with us as soon as possible.

Do I Need A Rewire?
There are no set guidelines. Just because your wiring is old, it doesn’t mean it’s unsafe. Many factors can affect the wear and tear of your electrical installation, including the materials used and how your property has been utilised. We would advise that an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is carried out on owner-occupied properties at least every 10 years and every five years in rented accommodation (or at a change of Tennant).
Protect Your Family & Posessions
Contact us for advice on the latest smoke or heat alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and RCD’s – a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. It can also provide some protection against electrical fires. RCDs offer a level of personal protection that ordinary fuses and circuit-breakers cannot provide. Is your home protected? Email a photo of your fuse board & we’ll tell you!
The Landlords and Tenant Act 1985 requires landlords of properties with short leases to keep the electrical wiring in repair and in proper working order. We recommend landlords arrange for periodic inspection and testing to be carried out every five years. Keep up to date with the latest smoke alarm legislation.
